The Minister of Justice has requested the Law Enforcement Council (Council) to investigate how the Special Laws Unit of the Curaçao Police Force performs its duties. For this inspection, the Council inquired whether the Special Laws Unit is equipped to process applications for firearms and other firearms permits and event permits in accordance with the regulations.
The Council identified several bottlenecks and areas for improvement, although the Special Laws Unit employs a structured and systematic approach. These findings have led to twelve recommendations from the Council to the Minister of Justice and the Curaçao Police Force to improve the Special Laws Unit's performance.
