2026 — Follow-up Inspection on Public Safety and Enforcement

This new review inspection by the Council shows that recommendations from years ago have largely been ignored. The Council warns that without swift action and additional resources, the safety of those involved and the judicial process will remain under pressure. The topic of public safety and enforcement has been a recurring theme in the Council's inspections over the years. The Council conducted a review inspection into the follow-up of the recommendations on the topics of security and protection of individuals and objects within the (criminal) judicial process. Sint Maarten is still lagging behind in the protection of authority figures, witnesses and other vulnerable individuals, while the threat is increasing.
