2026 — Screening in Sint Maarten

Integrity is the foundation of a well-functioning organization, particularly in law enforcement. In this context, the screening of justice system employees is a measure designed to promote integrity. The Council assessed the extent to which individuals who work or wish to work in the justice sector are screened or rescreened in accordance with laws and regulations. Not only does the Council conclude that the screening and rescreening processes leave much to be desired, but it also expresses concerns about informal screening practices and a lack of clarity regarding rescreening. The Council therefore makes four recommendations for better alignment between policy, legislation, and implementation.
