2025 — State of Law Enforcement in St. Maarten

In its States the Council describes more broadly the developments in law enforcement and individual inspections transcending findings. From the perspective of cooperation and obligations between countries, the Council addresses various topics including safeguarding human rights, forensic care and data protection. Furthermore, the Council turns its attention to the topic of the "citizen perspective" within law enforcement and also discusses in that context its findings and activities. In the interest of the functioning of law enforcement in the democratic rule of law, the citizen and their perspective, and the safeguarding of fundamental human rights and freedoms, legal certainty, and sound governance, various actions are necessary. According to the Council, the direction of the solution that should be considered is that of intensive cooperation in and between the countries.
